Melanotan 2 is a cyclic, truncated analog of alpha-MSH. Its ring structure confers metabolic stability, and unlike Melanotan 1 it engages several melanocortin receptor subtypes rather than favouring MC1R.
It is used in comparative receptor-selectivity panels, melanogenesis models, and studies distinguishing MC1R-mediated effects from those routed through MC3R and MC4R.
