Semax is a seven-residue peptide modelled on the 4-10 fragment of ACTH, modified for stability. It carries none of the corticotropic activity of the parent hormone, which is what allows it to be used as a clean neurological research tool.
Studies involving it look at BDNF and NGF expression in hippocampal tissue, performance in cognitive assay models, and neuroprotective signalling following ischemic or oxidative challenge.
